Episode 100

The Other 99% Turns 100, and We’re Celebrating With Giveaways!

We can’t believe we’re typing this… The Other 99% Podcast just hit 100 episodes! 🎉

This milestone episode was extra special because we recorded it live on December 1st with an audience, real-time comments, surprise guests, and yes… a few “why are we nervous?!” moments. It was the kind of episode that reminded us exactly why we started this show in the first place: to celebrate the everyday seller, the consistent builder, the people doing amazing things who rarely get the spotlight.

So let’s recap the best parts, share a few behind-the-scenes laughs, and tell you how to enter our giveaway celebration (with a firm deadline so you don’t miss out).

Why We Created The Other 99%

The heart of this podcast has always been simple: direct sales is full of incredible people, and so many of them are doing exceptional things without ever landing in the “top 1%” spotlight.

Some are a thousand dollars away from the top seller. Some are leaders in their own way, quietly showing up, supporting customers, and building something meaningful. We wanted a space where you don’t have to be a top producer or a trip earner to matter, because on this podcast…

every seller matters.

Our very first intro episode aired January 17, 2023, and somehow here we are, almost two years later, celebrating episode 100 with the most supportive community we could have asked for.

A Little Behind the Scenes of How We Record

This podcast has come a long way.

We started on Zoom, audio only, and Lisa edited everything manually in GarageBand with multiple tracks, lots of cutting, lots of “what am I doing?” energy, and a whole lot of figuring it out as we went.

Then we found Riverside, and it changed everything: better recordings, easier editing, AI features (Lisa was very into that), and a smoother workflow overall.

Susan also started using Opus Clip Pro to turn our YouTube episodes into short clips and reels, which has helped more people find the show and binge episodes, because yes, that happens and it makes us ridiculously happy.

Also, fair warning: we are not in a perfect studio. Real life happens here.

  • coughing spouses
  • cats who meow on cue
  • kids walking in with Chipotle bags
  • guests warning us about barking dogs
  • and the legendary “guest recording from a hotel lobby” moment (it worked out, promise)

This is a real podcast for real people, and honestly, we like it that way.

Our Funniest Memories So Far

We shared a few favourites during the episode, and some of these still make us laugh out loud.

The “bird call” episode

During a DISC personality episode, we connected personality styles to birds… and Lisa decided she needed to perform the bird calls. Not all of it made the final edit, but the laughter absolutely happened.

Susan’s lagging computer era

There were episodes where Susan would answer a question from five minutes ago because her computer was delayed, disappear mid-recording, then pop back in like: “I’m back!”
Now she borrows her son’s gaming computer like it’s a prized recording studio tool.

The StoryBrand episode brain fog

We knew what we were talking about… but could we get the words out? Not without some fancy editing magic.

Big Podcast Milestones We’re Proud Of

We hit some big moments along the way:

  • Episode 61: Susan officially became co-host
  • Episode 75: our first video podcast (hello hair and makeup, goodbye “Zoom-only” comfort)
  • Episode 77: we stopped scripting everything and switched to natural conversation, which made the podcast feel so much more like us

That shift was a turning point. Once we leaned into real conversation, everything flowed better.

The Stats That Blew Our Minds

This part honestly surprised us:

  • 71.4% of listeners are ages 45–59
  • 89% are female
  • 67% listen from the US
  • 29% listen from Canada

And here’s the wild part: we’ve been listened to in places like Ukraine, South Africa, Colombia, Australia, Jamaica, Bangladesh, the UK, India, Hungary, Brazil, Lithuania, Ghana, Belgium, and more.

Also, on November 21, we hit 100 downloads in a single day, across a bunch of different episodes. That was one of those “wait… people are actually listening??” moments.

What’s Coming in 2026

We’re not slowing down, and we’re excited about what’s next:

  • exploring podcast sponsorship options
  • being more intentional with sharing clips across platforms
  • expanding where the podcast is available (if you listen somewhere we’re not, tell us)
  • continuing to build resources, toolkits, and paid offers that support sellers and small business owners
