Episode ## Transcript

Hey everyone, it is me, Lisa, and welcome back to another episode of The Other 99%.

Today, I want to chat with you a little bit about websites. Now, I know if you’re a direct seller, you’re probably thinking, Oh, well, I have a company website. I don’t need to listen to this episode.

But I encourage you to stop and listen to what I have to say.

And if you have any friends, family, or acquaintances who might be looking for a website—or if you feel like a website could benefit them—please feel free to pass this episode along. I think there will be some useful tips and tricks in here that could help them build a website in 2025 and beyond.

10 Excuses I Hear All the Time About Websites

I want to start by listing the 10 most common excuses I hear when I tell people they need a website:

  1. I don’t need one. I use social media.
  2. It’s too expensive.
  3. I don’t have time.
  4. I don’t know how to make one.
  5. I’m just a small business.
  6. I get plenty of business without it.
  7. It’s too complicated.
  8. I tried it before, and it didn’t work.
  9. I don’t have enough content.
  10. I’m just not ready yet.

Sound familiar?

Now, let me walk you through why websites are more important than ever in 2025 and why these excuses don’t hold up.

Why You Need a Website in 2025

1. Social Media Alone Isn’t Enough

Most small businesses rely on platforms like Facebook and Instagram to run their business. Heck, I even see big companies doing this. But I cringe every time—because I’ve seen way too many friends and fellow entrepreneurs get locked out of their accounts and lose access to their entire customer base.

If you’re relying only on social media, you’re putting your business at risk. If Facebook or Instagram shuts down your account tomorrow, what happens? You lose everything.

A website gives you a home base that you own.

2. It’s More Affordable Than You Think

People often say, A website is too expensive! But in reality, if your website helps you make just one or two sales per month, it more than covers the cost of a good website builder.

And if you’re looking for an affordable, easy-to-use platform, I’ll talk about Oh My Hi in just a bit.

3. Websites Work for You—Even When You’re Not Working

Unlike social media, where posts disappear fast, your website is open 24/7. It works while you sleep.

Think about it—if a potential customer is researching at 11 PM, would you rather have them scrolling endlessly through Facebook, hoping to find the right info? Or would you rather have them land on a clear, well-organized website where they can get everything they need and even place an order?

4. A Website Makes You Look More Professional

Imagine you’re talking to a potential customer and they ask, How can I learn more?

Instead of saying:
“Oh, just find me on Facebook, and I’ll add you to my group!”

You can say:
“Just visit LisaDuck.com and everything is right there!”

Which one sounds more professional? Exactly.

Your website can include everything:
✔️ Links to your social media
✔️ Information about your business
✔️ Ways to contact you
✔️ A blog to showcase your expertise
✔️ A shop (or links to your company store)

5. A Website Helps You Get Found on Google

This is called SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

When someone searches “best spice blends in Canada”, they’re not going to find you if all you have is a Facebook group.

But if you have a well-optimized website? Boom. You show up in search results.

One of the easiest ways to boost your SEO is through blogging—which is really just a long-form Facebook post. If you can write a post on social media, you can write a blog!

6. You Can Collect Emails & Automate Your Marketing

With a website, you can collect customer emails and send them updates, special offers, and helpful content.

Platforms like Oh My Hi even include a built-in CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) so you can easily follow up with leads and build long-term relationships.

7. You Control the Customer Experience

With a personal website, you control the experience—not your company.

If your company website is hard to navigate or doesn’t highlight the right products, you can curate the perfect experience for your customers before sending them to the checkout page.

You can even host scroll parties directly on your website, instead of dealing with the constant changes on Facebook.

Final Thoughts

Websites are the key to growing your brand in 2025. Social media alone isn’t enough—you need a home base that you control.
